Text RELIEF to 97000 for #Helene relief updates & assistance

AVL City Church, in collaboration with Crisis Response International and various newly formed partners, quickly responded on the frontlines after Hurricane Helene. The church community stepped up to provide help, hope, and healing to those in need. Families who lost everything came for essential supplies donated from around the globe, including water, diapers, canned goods, water, formula, jackets, medical supplies, generators, sleeping bags and tents, and more.

Since the day after the storm, countless supplies have been distributed throughout Western North Carolina. Volunteers from across the country have transported resources to the hardest-hit areas.

LATEST UPDATES

Through our two relief hubs and SAR (Search and Rescue) base, AVL City Church—alongside dedicated church and business partners like Crisis Relief International, Somebody Cares, Citi Impact and Generation Church, as well as hundreds of local and out-of-state volunteers—has been at the heart of compassionate service, working tirelessly to meet the needs of our neighbors in crisis. This looks like 12hr+ days in the heat, cold and rain. Every day.

Together, this is what we have been able to accomplish:
  • Over 300 semi-truck trailers of essential supplies received and distributed
  • 60,000+ hot meals served to those in need
  • 1,200+ generators provided to families without power

Search and Rescue (SAR) Impact
  • 500+ SAR missions completed
  • 200+ families safely reunited
  • 30 lives saved through timely aid and essential supplies

Each meal, generator, and rescue mission is a testament to the generosity of supporters like you. Your contributions empower us to continue this vital work, bringing help, hope and healing to those facing unimaginable challenges. Thank you for standing with us in making a life-changing impact.

WHAT'S NEXT
For the past 30 days, our team has been volunteering over 12 hours each day. It’s been incredible, but to sustain this vital work, we need to pivot toward a long-term relief and rebuilding approach. Going forward, we’ll focus on non-emergency, direct assistance rather than community drive-thru distributions.  If you need assistance, let us know.

We will continue to provide:
  • supplies
  • clean up homes
  • assist in finding temporary housing.

We’ve also secured a temporary warehouse to continue receiving and distributing supplies as requested. Our efforts will focus on providing clean-up crews, debris and tree removal, and delivering supplies and food directly to those who need them.

Phase 1: Search, Rescue, and Recovery

This phase occurs immediately after a disaster strikes. It focuses on locating and rescuing survivors, providing immediate medical aid, and recovering those who are injured or deceased. First responders, emergency teams, and volunteers work to save lives and stabilize the situation.

Phase 2: Relief

In this phase, the focus shifts to meeting basic needs like food, water, shelter, and medical care for survivors. Relief efforts help maintain safety and provide comfort while addressing urgent necessities. It involves setting up temporary shelters, distributing supplies, and providing emotional support to those affected.

Phase 3: Clean Up

This phase involves the physical cleanup of the disaster-affected areas. It includes removing debris and mud, clearing damaged structures, and cleaning out homes and buildings. Volunteers and recovery teams help to make the area habitable again, setting the stage for rebuilding and longer-term recovery efforts.
